Tourmaline
Bio
The self-proclaimed leader of the volcanic island gems, as well as the protagonist of the story. They came upon the volcanic island by accident and got the idea to attempt to build their own society there, safe from the moon. Perhaps the prestige of finding a new island of their very own has gotten to their head, because they've gone from friendly and peppy to egotistical and occasionally violent. They have more than a few complexes and have some sort of line of conflict with most who live on the island. They want, more than anything, to be special.
Debut: Landfall
Appearance
An average gem. Half of their body is pink and the other is blue. They have some replacements made of diamond which are colorless. They also have four arms. They've got curly hair with a braid on each side of their head, tied at the back. Their outfit is black with purple accents.
Composition
Their body is made mostly of polychrome tourmaline. They're missing a chunk of their face and a foot, and they've replaced those with pieces of heavily included colorless diamond. They also have a pair of extra arms made of the same material. Due to sun and heat exposure, their extremities are slightly bleached. Their diamond eye is nearly always squinting to try and block out the light.
Abilities
They're piezoelectric and can discharge voltage when under stress. They're especially prone to visual disturbances akin to migraine auras.

Background
Tourmaline was born under normal circumstances and destined to probably fight for a couple hundred years before eventually being kidnapped, never to be seen again, like any other gem of their hardness. It would seem that fate had other plans for them. After sneaking off into the ocean to try and find the source of a distant plume of smoke, they got lost in the sea and was assumed to be taken. They, exhausted, passed out on the seafloor and woke up some decades later, inexplicably on the shores of a completely new island.
Thoughts on the others
On Salammoniac: Sal was the first gem around on the volcanic island and kept Tourmaline company for many years when it was just the two of them. Tourmaline was initially frustrated with the differences that they and Sal have but have come to accept them. In recent times the two have grown distant, and Tourmaline honestly isn't that concerned about it, now that they've brought more friends to hang out with.
On Rainbow Feldspar: One of Tourmaline's friends from back home, they roped Rainbow into their whole situation after running into them by accident while sneaking back to steal some clothes. Rainbow wanted to stop fighting and Tourmaline had found a cool secret place to hide out in, so they eagerly followed them there. However, since then, they've found that Rainbow has become a real pill and the two frequently butt heads.
On Pallasite: Originally Tourmaline was rather miffed to find that someone from the moon found their way to stick their fingers into their secret island, but they've come to accept it. The prestige of being the "chosen one" by the enemy kind of fascinates them and they're just a little bit obsessed with this guy. Each of them have dirt on the other (admittedly, Pallas has more dirt on Tourmaline than the other way around) so the two have been blackmailing each other for centuries. They have some kind of messed up mutually assured destruction toxic codependent relationship going on.
On Golden Beryl: Tourmaline and Beryl were born in the same year and they could have been friends, but Tourmaline always resented Beryl's popularity among the rest of their peers. They weren't too pleased to find that Beryl managed to get to the island.
On Psilomelane: Psilomelane was Tourmaline's old partner who went into the sea with them long ago. They don't know where they ended up...

Notes: The only reason they're missing a foot is because I was drawing a reference sheet for them some years ago and just didn't feel like drawing their other foot.
